Request for Nasal Advice
June 23rd, 2008My nose has been actively seeping blood for six days. The insides of my nasal passages seem to have left behind on the plane from Detroit any desire to be normal. I’ve tried some great products, thanks to friends’ advice, but nothing seems to be working. I’m losing pillowcases and shirts, not to mention every time I cough, a giant clot flies from my mouth. Gross, yes. Yes. And uncomfortable. Anyway, any ideas?

You probably busted a blood vessel while flying. I would do like wrestlers and shove some light-flow tampons up there for a day. The blood may simply need to clot, and your products or noseblowing might be hindering this. Seriously, tampons.
I dated a wrestler in high school.

Scrubbed is right. Old athletes solution, your nose needs to clot. Stuff a sock up it.

See a doctor?

Let’s tie this in with your last post… tampon? string or no string.
By the way, as part of my school counselor duties I do the “family life” talk with the fourth grade girls each year. They all want to know what happens if the string falls off. Or if it gets stuck up there. And which hole, exactly, does it go in to anyway?

Oh, hah! Someone already suggested tampon. Post some pictures of this, please.

I would also irrigate the sinus passages with a Saline Nasal Spray which is basically salty water. This will help clear things out and will slow the flow of blood as well as prevent an infection. They sell it at CVS. Just in any case, see a doctor. However in most cases, the doctor will just give you antibiotics and decongestants and send you on your way. Good Luck!

You know the “school of duct tape,” which holds that all things can be mended by duct tape? I am of the “school of Neosporin.” Shove some Neosporin up there on a cotton swab. It heals all things.

I am disturbed by some of the above advise…. Cold compress maybe? DO NOT GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM!!! That place was scary.
