For You, the Special Person

June 29th, 2008

Violet went to her first movie today, WALL-E, on the Disney Studios lot in Burbank. She slept through all but the last five minutes, which she watched with mild interest. It’s a great movie. Go see it soon, and then you’ll know what I mean when I say to you, “Directive.”

It’s been a week of firsts. Violet had her first taste of baby rice cereal, a mixture of ricey powder and milk. Her doctor had warned us she might find it “unfamiliar.” Indeed, with no expression on her face, she rejected it as a foreign substance. Day 2, same thing. We’ll see about day 3.

She continues to roll over onto her stomach and prop herself up on her elbows. She is usually quite pleased with this for about five minutes. Then she starts to fuss with increasing volume until she is flipped back over by a tall person. She also loves to be held up “standing,” although she’s quite a dreamer; her feet will have to be a lot less like little dinner rolls if she is ever going to use them for standing on. She also continues sucking on the same two fingers that Steve was known for sucking on when he was little. Every day she seems more and more like him in subtle and overt ways. (Her eyebrows and ears are really filling in.) The little Steveling.

Most characteristic of this stage with the kid are the sounds she makes. She takes great pleasure in the sensation of making noise with her mouth. There are many variations, but my favorite is, “Ooooooooh!” Overall, personality-wise, she is a baby who seems to enjoy just being alive most of the time. A smiley one.

My nose is still bleeding and crusting and bleeding again. Thank you all for your advice, I’ve tried a lot of it, and it’s helping. And yes, Cheri, I will stay away from the scary ER.

I’ll leave you with this lovely found poem from our restaurant menu today; may you learn from it and feel happy: The important thing …

WHOOHOO! She can wiggle and squigle. Now Violet smiles can be aimed in any direction.

Sorry to hear that your nose is still troubling you. See the doctor, provide all of the imformation you can. And that you breast feed Violet. It is all important.

Can’t wait to see you guys. Pauline has started her count-down. Grandmothers just want to hold grandaughters. Me too.

But grandpa must spend 12 hours a day looking for new pictures of Violet.

I had my fix for today but there were only a few new ones! Sigh!

Our countdown for September is on the calendar.

Grandma Pauline: y’ll have a nice time cuddling the Steveling.

With GG, GGD, Grandmother, Grandad, Mamma and Poppa, Violet will probably be cuddled to near death. And then there are Aunt Cheri, Erica and Dani (who thinks that babies are her personal property). So Violet may not even touch the ground when we all get there.

And I only spend one hour, twice each day looking at pictures. The one with Krissy kissing Violet is pricelass!

Glad to see that you got her a POD. I’ve seen those and thought they would be fun for a baby that wants to sit up but doesn’t have the strength in her back yet.

Does she like it? I read one mom’s comment about it that said that her baby wouldn’t sit too long in it before sticking his legs out straight and vaulting out of it. Looks like maybe they’ve resolved that problem with that white top thing covering the between-the-legs part.

Such a happy kid! Enjoy every precious day! I miss her (and you) like crazy! Happy 4th Anniversary on Thursday, by the way! You guys still make a pretty good team (and you make the cutest babies, too!)

You really do make the cutest babies! I’m constantly amazed at the pictures; there are some that are a scary resemblance to Stevel, some that are a dead ringer for you, and others that are just cute little Vibble looking like her unique self.

Jeff is looking forward to meeting her in August. I’m so jealous!
