Holidays

December 31st, 2007

You may recall how we celebrated Thanksgiving, or perhaps you remember how we celebrated Steve’s birthday. You get one guess as to how we celebrated Christmas.

DUH! We played Rock Band! This is Stevel on drums, Matthew on (I think) bass guitar, and the Singin’ Selans—Junior and Junior’s younger brother, Dan, also known as Junior, Jr.—on vocals and guitar. Rock!

OK, we did more than just ROCK. We also ROCKED SOME FOOD!

There was turkey, stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce, green beans, mashed potatoes, cheesecake, and pecan pie (also homemade). The fetus and I ate well. I don’t know about the others. I wasn’t really paying attention. I didn’t care. With all that food being made in your house, but not by you, would you care?

It was a great day, which we followed with some less exciting days. I took the teen to In N’ Out burger by request, and we drove through the UCLA campus. Sad to say, this was really his only tour of L.A., my not feeling up for much more. But I think he was perfectly content to play video games and relax here at No. 6. He works hard at school and with baseball, so it was a rest for him. We returned him to the airport Thursday.

Right now Jeremy Sr. and David are here rockin’ out. I guess they are celebrating pre-New-Year’s? Stevel and I are about to head up to Pasadena for an early dinner with the Wightmans.

Well you and Stevel are on your way to a successfull life. You have survived 7 1/2 months of pregnancy (so far), and a visit from your future with a 17 year old teenager. Now the New Year begins, and so does the rest of yout life. Have the Baby. Raise the Baby. See her grow and then pull away. And then grow up and leave. Why can’t you all just stay 3-4 years old, such a really cute age. Everyday is a new experience?

The report is in, Nanna has debriefed her grandson; Stevel is COOL, your friends are really cool and you are very pregnant. All of the relevant observations of a 17 year old teenage boy. Just one really pertinent question, did Mattie ever beat Stevel in any of his quests to unseat the master? Matt would not say, I suspect that his quest for supremacy was quashed by his cousin-in-law.

Happy New Year to you and Stevel. May you be Healthy and prosper. And could you ask LittleL to push up her time table a bit. We can not wait until she makes her appearance. Grandparents are waiting anxiously to meet her. We are all excited and praying that the remainder of your pregnancy is easy and that you can eat. And keep it down. Besides I am tired of speculating as to her name, my best guess so far is Anne-Marie Lavietes. Am I close?

In case your dad would like to adopt another daughter, I’m available. I love reading his comments, and I am always stunned by his kind attention to the details of your life and blog. My own father can hardly remember my mailing address, much less my blog address or that I even know how to use a computer. I forgive him for this, of course. Repeatedly. But I am still always shocked and touched in the pits of my little stone heart when I witness engaged, unabashedly loving fatherhood.

All I know of your dad is the dad portrayed in his comments on your blog, which is a superficial portrait, necessarily. I really don’t know anything about how you did or do feel about him (you and I haven’t covered that particular topic yet), but I don’t see how you could NOT totally love the person who leaves those comments. I don’t know if he’s your bio-dad, or some guy who became “dad” after he married your ma. Heck, he may not even be your dad but some weirdo who chose “dad” as his profile name. Whoever he is, his comments sure are sweet. Sweets for the sweet!
