Shower, Flower
January 18th, 2008Sunday we attended a lovely event in honor of The Fetus: A beautiful shower thrown by two of our friends, Sarah-Architect and Sarah-Novelist, at one of our favorite restaurants. This was our second shower, the first occurring in Pennsylvania and attended via Webcam. Here are photos from the L.A. event (please note that the better ones were taken by Sarah-Novelist):
During the shower, a game was played that involved attendees writing name ideas and suggestions on index cards—funny entries encouraged, of course. Among the entries I remember were Macintosh LaVietes, iLaVietes, and Rock-shelle. Stevel and I decided as the instructions were being introduced that, what the hell, if someone guessed the actual name, we would confirm, and TWO PEOPLE guessed it! So we are naming the kid Violet, middle name still TOP SECRET, give us SOMETHING to surprise you with!
So now we are gaining “gear” at an amazing rate. Shocking how much stuff is necessary to coddle and nurture something that weighs less than my leg. Still, no matter how many toys we get, what do you think will be her favorite thing in the toy basket, hm?
I am feeling somewhat better in terms of the stomach stuff. Still feel exhausted all the time, but I think the puking finally ended after 7 1/2 months or so. So I am eating very well now and growing at a rapid rate. I have come to the stage where I look at myself in the mirror and think, “I don’t see how this is going to work, but if you say so.” That’s very good. The fetus is just the right size, says the doctor, and could join us on the outside any day (although no later than Feb. 18, one week after the due date, at which time they will induce if she needs encouragement).
In other news, Linus is doing great. He really responded to the antibiotics the vet gave us a week and a half ago, and he is back to his old self—eating, sleeping, hanging out at the water bowl. Well, almost back to his old self. The six pounds he shed are staying off, and he is one svelt kitty. He still doesn’t mind the insulin shots, so it’s all good. Our expensive cats, we love them.

Violet LaVietes…..WHAT a BEAUTIFUL NAME!!!! (I like it SO much better than “Fetus LaVietes”.) Hey – You guys are down to the last 4 weeks here! So glad that the puking seems to be gone and you can go out and eat for enjoyment again. Take a minute every day to think about how nice it is to just be alone together, because someone is about to move into your nice quiet lives and your nice neat home and turn them UPSIDE DOWN and she won’t move out for 18 YEARS! (And, when she does, you’ll miss her like CRAZY!) Can’t WAIT to meet her!

Violet has many of the same letters as LaVietes. I love it. Brian is guessing the middle name is Fetus…..Dani wants first dibs on sleepovers! Glad you had a good time at your baby shower. Can’t wait to see my niece, soon little Vi!

VIOLET, boy was I ever off. But It is the most beautiful name for what will be one of my most beautiful grandaughters. I can not wait to meet VioletL. And true to you two I am sure the middle name will be just as cool and original.
The shower looks like it was great fun for everyone. Sarah 2′s you did a fantastic job!
The stuff has not ended coming yet. Grandmother is primed and ready for when we come in March. She is looking forward to getting the things you did/will not have yet. And trust me when I say the GrandMas will find stuff you do not have. So three waves of them should have you weel equiped to cope/handle with any contingency that may or may not ever arise.
This will be my private time with little Vi when you two escape to shop. I will have hours with just Vi and I (thought you were the only poet in the family?).

PS..Linus looks fantastic. Have you two broken the news to him yet that all of that stuff is NOT his?
You may have to get a second set, so that he does not act out when Violet joins the family.

Violet is such a beautiful name! And it looks like the shower was beautiful too! I’m glad you are less puke-y too. And yay for Linus’ recovery. So much good news–what a treat.
